Twisted Thoughts : The One Tower (Night)

Editor : Here's another story from Twisted Thought series. This time is fear of living in a high rise condominium in a sunken island. Enjoy my thoughts...

Night 11:30 PM - It was a dark stormy night, Jason was having his late supper with his wife. "The storm is getting worse", the wife said. Jason had never felt so uncomfortable before with heavy storms. However, this was a very unusual storm. It had rain non-stop since late afternoon. It will go away soon, he thought about it. He told his wife that the storm will go away. "It's been hours ago", his wife replied back. She was right about the rain. His wife had always felt uneasy with the slightest downpour. Yes, she might be right in some ways that this rain had been pouring too long. This storm is not good at all. It was getting midnight soon. His wife had walked to the window and looked out to the streets. Heavy raindrops were pelting at the window like heavy stones hitting it so hard that it will crack anytime. No, it did not crack at all. "Don't worry too much, you will have sunshine tomorrow morning", and he beckoned his wife to bed. "This storm is creepy!", his wife cleared off the table and walked into their bed room.

Night 12:30 AM - "Honey, there's weird sound outside", Sandra shook her husband to awake him. Jason was in deep sleep ad nothing could wake him up. He was a heavy sleeper. Feeling frustrated, Sandra got up quietly and walked towards the window to check out the rain. The rain was still raining heavily. This island is going to sink if these downpour goes on untill tomorrow, she looked out hard of her bedroom's window. She could not see the street. It was blurred by the heavy rain and those houses below still looked fine. The worse fear that Sandra could ever thought of was the whole island being sunk down and her condominium stood still in the centre of the sea. She shook her head of that silly idea. "Sunken island, " and she decided to check out their living room for that noise that had somehow stirred her awake. She crept quietly across her bedroom to the door. As she goes near her door, she grabbed her favorite tennis racquet. She loved to play tennis on her off days and on weekends with her mates. She was named the Queen of Balls by her friends. With one hand holding the door knob, she had prepared herself with her tennis racquet in an attack stance if any thieves were waiting outside. Perhaps, it was also a bad idea to be going out in case if there was really a thief and stayed in her own bedroom would be a safer choice. She braced herself and decided to turn the door knob slowly.

Night 12:40 AM - It was quiet and cold in the living room despite one of the neighbors still playing loud music into the night. Probably another rave party by some kids whose parents had gone for their business trip. She looked around her living room. There was not a single thief or anything that resembled any creepy crawlies roaming in her living room too. So, it must be the pipes or those zombie neighbors' kids who are still awake at this grave hours. Sometimes her neighbors' kids can be a nuisance with their rave parties that goes on into the early hours disturbing everyone's sleep. Once, she remembered one old lady was screaming at their door thinking that she was playing those loud musics. Sandra had opened the door and told the lady it was not her doing. As a result, the old lady had to call the police. The police arrived in a matter of minutes, the old lady was fuming with rage and the police had to calm her down before she faints or even collapse due to high blood pressure. Soon the police found out a group of teenagers, their parents were not around, had held an all night rave party. The police had the party stop immediately. When the parents came back they were slapped with a bill for disturbing the peace. So it was back then and now she could not be bother at all with the current neighbor's untamed kids whilst the scary storm is pouring outside.

Night 4:00 AM - That very night, the whole island was caught unaware by the heavy storm that had eventually swallowed up the whole island. The rescue teams were caught unprepared and were stranded in their own building. Everywhere was flooded with water. The whole island, now, heavily burden with its volumnous rain water had resulted the sea water beginning to flow into the island. The island, by minutes, had slowly began to submerge into the sea. Sea water began to flow into the island and swallowing up as many buildings as it possibly can. Unaware sleeping occupants were drowned in their dreams forever. They will never know what had happen to them. Consequently, there were thousands of families drowned in that very one faithful night. Mainland rescue teams had hit a snag trying to cross the bridge to rescue any survivors. The bridge that connected the mainland and the island had led rescuers to a dead end. The bridge had ran into the sea. It was a devastating night, the rescuers can only stood by the edge of the bridge, starred into the black night and could not do anything at all. They prayed hard and hope for the heavy storm to stop. It was now up to the nature to stop its torrential downpour so they could continue their rescue operation by sea. Strong wind and strong waves had prevented them from doing so. It was a sad dark day for the residents on that sunken island except for one tall condominium. The one and only standing tower.
